Predict and control water supply with autonomous irrigation
In 2021, Blue Radix’s product development team delivered Crop Controller, the market’s first commercial solution for autonomous growing. The team continues to build and work on more modules to further expand autonomous growing with Crop Controller. Here Peter Goudswaard, Product Developer, and Csaba Balla-Somogyi, a graduate student at Blue Radix and MSc student at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), tell the story. Peter explains the challenges in developing the new irrigation module, while Csaba describes his related graduation project at Blue Radix.
Blog ‘ Who decides?’
Algorithms determine our daily lives increasingly: they guide your choice of music, interests, the job vacancies you see and what you order for dinner. It’s all very convenient, but is it desirable? In the blog of Rudolf de Vetten, Chief Product Officer, he explains the way in which Blue Radix uses the algorithms. That’s really different. We take the grower’s unique crop strategy as a starting point. That results in a solution that allows growers to determine the direction and what is important.
Blue Radix nominated for Dutch Horticultural Entrepreneur Award: Robotization & data-driven Horticulture
This morning we were pleasantly surprised with a visit at our office by jury president Rutger Lommerse of the Dutch Tuinbouw Ondernemersprijs (Horticultural Entrepreneur Award). He announced that Blue Radix is officially nominated for the Horticultural Entrepreneur Award 2022: namely the Theme award Robotization and Data-Driven Horticulture. Read more about the jury report and the reaction of CEO Ronald Hoek in the article.
From your own rhythm to algorithm needs personal guidance
Autonomous growing has become increasingly indispensable for greenhouse horticulture. Algorithms and AI control the daily processes. But how do you learn to work with algorithms, and what’s your role as a grower? Laurens van der Spek, Chief Operations Officer, and Geert van der Wel, Autonomous Greenhouse Manager of Blue Radix, offer their answers. Here they discuss the changing role of the grower, and how artificial intelligence delivers the most value when combined smartly with personal support.
Onder Glas | Grower sets goal, model calculates required crop control and setpoints
In the January edition of the Dutch Onder Glas magazine an article on the completion of the TKI project ‘the road to digital green fingers’. Two seasons of research took place with an illuminated tomato crop (large trusses) in which first a sensor network was developed and eventually the climate was controlled with smart algorithms. In this article, Jan Hanemaaijer, Crop Advisor at Blue Radix, among others, talks more about his involvement and findings. Read the entire article via the link to the pdf of the article.
Onder Glas | Crop Manager Jack ‘t Hoen: ‘I couldn’t have done it better myself’
In the newsletter and website of Dutch media ‘Onder Glas’, Crop Manager Jack ‘t Hoen of Bosch growers was interviewed about autonomous growing with Crop Controller. Since last summer, Bosch Growers in Bleiswijk, the Netherlands, are controlling their cultivation in one department by autonomous growing software during the day. Crop Manager Jack ‘t Hoen tells that the algorithms work so well that today the switch was made to fully autonomous control 24/7. He has every confidence in it. “The results are continuously on the line that was set out. I couldn’t have done better myself.”
Groenten & Fruit Magazine | ‘AI makes greenhouse horticulture smarter’
Dutch Groenten & Fruit Magazine and GFactueel.nl published an interview with Ronald Hoek in mid-January about the entry of AI into greenhouse horticulture. What does the future look like? What is the role of the grower in autonomous growing and why do growers choose this? Read more in the summary of the interview.
