Autonomous growing explained in 1,5 minute

animation autonomous growing blue radix

AI and algorithms are becoming increasingly important in greenhouse horticulture. The value is becoming clearer and growers are embracing the technology, step-by-step.

This short animation explains how autonomous growing and autonomous energy management works in greenhouses worldwide. It’s more than data driven growing. The grower’s unique crop strategy is realized autonomously with AI.

Dutch algorithms at GreenTech Americas

Blue Radix, specialist in autonomous growing, was one of the 2 winners of the GreenTech Americas challenge. GreenTech Americas was held from April 27 to 29, 2022, at the Congress Center, Querétaro Mexico. Blue Radix won a flight ticket to Mexico and a booth and presentation at the show.

Meet Victor, the virtual grower at Floriade

The rapid growth of greenhouses feeding and greening our world is not matched by the number of professional growers. Who will operate these greenhouses in the near future? At the international Horticultural World Expo Floriade in Almere, you can meet Victor, the virtual grower. Victor shows you how Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions help managing autonomous greenhouses: enabling growers to oversee more hectares and realize higher yields. Virtual Victor was created by greenhouse technology providers Blue Radix, Gearbox and Ridder who joined forces.

Rijk Zwaan autonomous growing trial delivers confidence

Rijk Zwaan and Blue Radix have undertaken a joint initiative for a unique production comparison with autonomous growing. Implementing artificial intelligence (AI) in Rijk Zwaan’s seed production process has many advantages. The comparison across two departments created a major opportunity to demonstrate the value of autonomous growing in a production situation. In this article Josephine van Eggelen (on photo), Production Development Specialist and Grower Maikel van den Berg of MR Seeds, among others, talk about their goals, experiences and the advantages of working with Crop Controller.

Predict and control water supply with autonomous irrigation

In 2021, Blue Radix’s product development team delivered Crop Controller, the market’s first commercial solution for autonomous growing. The team continues to build and work on more modules to further expand autonomous growing with Crop Controller. Here Peter Goudswaard, Product Developer, and Csaba Balla-Somogyi, a graduate student at Blue Radix and MSc student at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), tell the story. Peter explains the challenges in developing the new irrigation module, while Csaba describes his related graduation project at Blue Radix.

Blue Radix nominated for Dutch Horticultural Entrepreneur Award: Robotization & data-driven Horticulture

This morning we were pleasantly surprised with a visit at our office by jury president Rutger Lommerse of the Dutch Tuinbouw Ondernemersprijs (Horticultural Entrepreneur Award). He announced that Blue Radix is officially nominated for the Horticultural Entrepreneur Award 2022: namely the Theme award Robotization and Data-Driven Horticulture. Read more about the jury report and the reaction of CEO Ronald Hoek in the article.

From your own rhythm to algorithm needs personal guidance

Blue Radix support

Autonomous growing has become increasingly indispensable for greenhouse horticulture. Algorithms and AI control the daily processes. But how do you learn to work with algorithms, and what’s your role as a grower? Laurens van der Spek, Chief Operations Officer, and Geert van der Wel, Autonomous Greenhouse Manager of Blue Radix, offer their answers. Here they discuss the changing role of the grower, and how artificial intelligence delivers the most value when combined smartly with personal support.

These crop sensors add value to autonomous growing

Blue Radix was a project leader of the TKI project ‘The road to digital green fingers’ over the past two years. The project has developed an integrated measurement system for monitoring crop responses in real time, aiming to support growers’ green fingers with smart, digital crop measurements. Now the TKI project has been completed, producing a host of insights into which sensors add value to autonomous growing. In this interview an overview of the project, with recommendations and conclusions.
